FOSS Teachers Trng Programme at Naini ...

A short term course on "Linux installation and programming" at UCER, Naini,

The National Resource Centre for Free/Open Source Software (NRCFOSS) and the United College of Engineering & Research (UCER), Naini,  jointly organized a a short course on "Linux Installation and Programming" during July 23 - 28, 2007 at UCER, Naini. The programme was coordinated by Prof Vanwasi, Principal and Mr. Prabhakara Vardhan, UCER, Naini. The programme was inaugurated on 23rd July 2007 by the Shri Sadal  Prasad , Hon'ble Minister of State for Technical Education, Govt. of UP. On the concluding day, viz., 28th July 2007, Dr. Phalguni Gupta, Professor, Dept of CSE, IIT Kanpur & Member, Board of Studies, UP Tech University delivered the valedictory address.

The faculty consisted of Dr. S. Srinivasan, Mr. Senthil Anand, Mr. Mohd Imran (all from NRCFOSS),  Prof M Kumaran (Jaya Engineering College, Chennai) and Mr. David Samuel Azariya (Sona College of Technology, Salem). The local technical support was provided by UCER Lab team led by Mr. Dinesh Kumar Yadav.

The course was attended by 61 participants from Depts of CSE, IT, MCA, ECE, EEE & Humanities from UCER and other academic institutions as well as from the industry. The participants were trained on hands-on installation of Linux distro, using various commands and installing FOSS packages and tools. The FOSS Lab Server was installed in the UCER Computing Lab and the participants accessed the contents through the intranet to learn about various FOSS topics. NRCFOSS provided them with a Mandriva distro installation dvd and a copy of "Introduction to Linux : Installation and programming", ed. N B Venkateswarlu (an NRCFOSS publication). During the interactions and feedback sessions, many of the participants expressed a desire to take up projects and migrate to FOSS platform and requested for continued guidance and additional training programmes.
